Where are my documents?

Your policy documents will be delivered online and you can access them via Your Portal. You can login here, or via the email we sent you when you took out your policy with us. It is important that you:

  • Check the documents are accurate. If you need to correct or update any information please contact us immediately.
  • Print the Certificate of Motor Insurance as soon as possible. You need to keep this safe for future reference.

In what order are miles used up?

There are four different types of miles, Policy Miles, Top Up Miles, Bonus Miles and Reward Miles. In your first year with insurethebox you use your Policy Miles first, followed by Top Up Miles, Bonus Miles and Reward Miles. Policy Miles are the only ones that may not be rolled over to next year’s renewal. After renewal, any rollover miles from the previous year are used first, before your new Policy Miles.

What are Bonus Miles?

Bonus Miles are additional miles you can earn for safe driving. If you drive responsibly you could earn up to 100 Bonus Miles each month – that’s up to 1,200 a year! Bonus Miles help us work out how much you pay when you renew. They let you prove you are a safe driver and allow us to treat you as an individual.
Bonus Miles are awarded on a monthly basis and will appear in Your Portal seven days after the policy month has ended.

What are Top Up Miles?

Top Up Miles are additional miles you can buy if you need more miles (on top of your Policy Miles). You can buy Top Up Miles in bundles of 250, 500, 1,000 or 2,000 miles at any time during the term of your policy. The cost of Top Up Miles depends on the price of your policy - this is called your cost per mile rate and it was set when you took out your policy, changed your details, or when you renewed. Your cost per mile rate can be viewed on the ShoppingBox page of Your Portal, and you can see the price of your Top Up Miles bundles on the Top Up Miles page. You can buy Top Up Miles online via the Top Up Miles page on Your Portal, or by phone on 0333 123 1308. If you don't use up all your Top Up Miles, you can roll them over to your next renewal (although they can't be refunded if you do not renew).

Am I covered to drive other cars?

Your insurethebox private car policy does not cover you to drive other cars, other than a courtesy car provided to you under the insurethebox approved repairer scheme if your vehicle is damaged following an insured loss. Full details can be found in your Car Insurance Schedule on Your Portal.

What should I do if I have an accident?

If you have an accident and you need to make a claim, please contact us as soon as possible after the incident on 0330 045 0045 and we will guide you through the process. For more information please see our guide to making a claim.
