At insurethebox your car insurance is based on the miles you drive. You can choose either a 6,000 mile or an 8,000 mile policy depending on how many miles you expect to drive in a year. If you need more miles you can buy Top Up Miles.
Your miles are measured by an in-tele-box, a small telematics device fitted out of sight in your car. The in-tele-box records how far you drive, as well as how, when and where you drive, so you can show us what kind of driver you are and we can reward safe drivers.
Policy Miles
Policy Miles are the number of miles on which your annual premium is based, as shown on your Schedule. You can select either 6,000 Policy Miles or 8,000 Policy Miles and they are measured by the in-tele-box fitted to your car. Any of the original Policy Miles that are unused will not be credited to the next period of policy cover, and there is no financial exchange for any unused miles.
Bonus Miles
You can increase your miles by earning Bonus Miles for safe driving. The in-tele-box sends details to us about how you drive. If you drive safely, you can earn up to 100 Bonus Miles each month – that’s up to 1,200 miles a year! And, Bonus Miles help us work out how much you pay when you renew. They let you prove you are a safe driver and let us treat you as an individual. Quite simply, better drivers are offered better deals.
Top Up Miles
If you use up all your Policy Miles before the end of your policy, you can buy Top Up Miles. Top Up Miles are available in bundles of 250, 500, 1,000 or 2,000 miles at any time during the term of your policy. Please note if you exceed your Policy Miles and do not buy Top Up Miles when required your policy will be cancelled.
Reward Miles
You can earn Reward Miles when you buy products from our retail partners through the ShoppingBox page.
Please note: when you renew your policy, you choose a new allocation of Policy Miles. Any unused Top Up, Bonus and Reward Miles will be credited to your overall miles for the next period of policy cover and will be used first before the new Policy Miles.
