Telematics news - Black box car insurance policyholders can save money
Car insurance news - More motorists becoming lower-mileage drivers
According to a survey undertaken by a car insurance company, 74% of UK motorist have reduced the amount of miles they drive in order to save money on fuel.
These road users may benefit from finding black box car insurance for low mileage drivers, so that they may also save money on their cover.
The insurance provider conducted a poll of more than 1,000 drivers and found that 20% of motorists are prepared to give up their vehicle altogether if petrol prices reach £2.00 per litre, with many other road users set to stop driving at £1.50, £1.60 and £1.70 per litre.
However, drivers do not necessarily have to give up their car completely to reduce outgoings. The report showed that 49% of road users had cut 25 miles off their weekly car use, 32% had reduced weekly journeys by 50 miles, and 7% had cut around 100 miles.
Reducing the amount of miles driven annually will not only reduce the amount of money a motorist will have to spend on fuel, but could also make them the perfect candidate for telematics car insurance.
Once the driver is a black box car insurance policyholder they are likely to pay less for their cover since it caters for low-mileage motorists, and they may be able to reduce their annual premium even further by actively proving that they are safe on the roads.
The insurance firm's managing director, stated "The right actions – reducing mileage and driving safely – can help motorists cut the cost of their insurance and their fuel bills, but ultimately motorists cannot and will not be able to keep on paying higher and higher petrol prices."
