Telematics news - Black box car insurance could help drivers save money for fuel
Insurance news - Black box car insurance holders might get caught in congestion
A survey conducted by a well-known UK car insurance company has revealed that around 123 million work hours are wasted annually due to road congestion – which equates to the country's economy losing £752 million a year, not to mention the fuel which idles away as motorists wait in traffic queues.
Motorists who have competitively-priced black box car insurance, which uses telematics technology to price drivers' annual premiums according to their driving habits, may not be quite so worried about petrol costs as much as other drivers when they are stuck in traffic jams, but they will still probably be interested in the research findings.
The survey polled 1,095 motorists who use their cars to get to work in the mornings and found that, on average, drivers suffered delays of 27 minutes at least once every month.
According to the company, this resulted in some road users needing to change their early morning routine in an attempt to beat traffic jams, which often cause 11% of motorists to arrive at work 40 minutes late.
The research revealed that 12% of employees are now working longer hours in order to avoid getting caught in traffic congestion, and 15% have changed their work hours to avoid busy times.
Low-mileage drivers who are worried that they are not only wasting their time in traffic jams but using more petrol, might want to turn off their engines while they wait, or perhaps buy a policy from a provider of black box car insurance to save money on their cover which can then be used to pay for fuel.
