Convicted driver news - Car insurance for convicted drivers made redundant
Car insurance news - Jobless and convicted drivers may have expensive quotes
From many companies, car insurance for convicted drivers is already considerably more expensive than for motorists who have not been sentenced for a traffic offence.
Now, a new report from The Mirror has revealed that losing a job could also trigger a rise in the price of a driver's annual premium.
This could be particularly worrying for convicted drivers, who, in this economic downturn, are just as likely as other motorists to be made redundant and may already be paying more than they can afford to stay on the roads.
One 51-year-old man, speaking to The Mirror, explained that when he lost his job as an electronics manager, his quote increased from £630 to £861.
A spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers (ABI) stated, "Many insurers have reported an additional risk associated with being unemployed. It is supported by evidence."
Similarly, car insurance for people with convictions may be more expensive because motorists who have committed a traffic offence could be considered a higher a risk to insure by some underwriters.'
However, for motorists who have just lost their jobs but still need their car, and people searching for car insurance for convicted drivers, the ABI has said "we advise customers to shop around".
