Car insurance news - Women do not like taking the blame for an accident
New research carried out by a provider of men and women's car insurance, on behalf of Halfords, has found that holders of car insurance for women are much more likely to blame someone or something else for a crash than male motorists.
Reportedly, out of the 2,000 road users surveyed, 78% of the women drivers stated that they were not to blame for an incident contrasting with only 47% of male motorists.
However, with 63% of men admitting to taking risks behind the wheel and breaking road laws, compared to only 26% of women – and men being 70% more likely to be involved in a serious collision, potentially many of the women who have claimed an accident was not their fault were probably actually not to blame.
Nevertheless, some of the less plausible reasons given by motorists after road accidents apparently include, "I bumped into a lamp post which was obscured by human beings," and "At 8:15am I drove out of my driveway straight into a bus. It was the fault of the bus for being 15 minutes late".
A spokesperson for the insurance company said, "People sometimes struggle to put up their hands and say ‘yes, that was down to me' and look to blame someone or something else."
When it comes to car cover, it's always best to be honest with the provider whether you have car insurance for women or men. Furthermore, if a motorist would rather not have to admit that they are responsible for a crash, driving safely and considerately is one of the surest ways of avoiding being involved in one in the first place.
