Motoring news - Police warn car insurance quote searchers about burglary
Car insurance quote news - North Yorkshire police warn motorists about thieves
Drivers who search for a cheap car insurance quote each year obviously want to get the best value from their motoring and they may be interested to know that police in North Yorkshire are warning motorists about a series of catalytic converter thefts from both business and domestic vehicles in the area.
According to a report, 58 incidents of the thefts have been reported since January and it is thought that thieves have been targeting catalytic converters due to the high scrap value of the metals which the devices use to convert toxins into harmless by-products.
Police have encouraged holders of men and women's car insurance to have their catalytic converters marked so that the stolen items can be returned the rightful owners if they are recovered – catalytic converters can cost motorists up to £1,000 to replace.
Cars targeted include those parked on private driveways and roads as well as vehicles on a garage forecourt and a secure supermarket compound.
Officers have announced plans to approach scrap metal dealers in the area to warn them about the stolen catalytic converters and to reinforce the message that anyone caught handling stolen goods will be prosecuted.
Motorists, who are already facing rising costs of motoring taxes and car insurance quotes, should report stolen catalytic converters to police as soon as possible to increase the chances of the stolen goods being recovered.
