Car insurance quotes news - Motoring offences cause price increase
Car cover news - Car insurance quotes affected by motoring convictions
The consequences of receiving a motoring conviction are well known – penalty points on your licence, a fine, maybe even a driving ban, but few drivers probably consider the fact that their car insurance quotes may increase in price quite dramatically as a result.
According to a leading car insurance price comparison website a conviction for driving without due care and attention could lead to an increase of up to 27% on car insurance premiums, with many drivers having to pay an additional £200 for car insurance after being found guilty of such a motoring offence.
Many motorists see changing music on their car stereo or drinking from a water bottle as very usual driving behaviour, but if a car accident occurs and it can be proved that the driver had been distracted when the collision occurred they may face prosecution for careless driving.
The car insurance website research also revealed that 15% of the motorists questioned admitted to not wearing a seatbelt while driving and this is a major factor in the number of road fatalities recorded in Britain each year.
A spokesperson for the car insurance quotes website said, "The UK's roads are becoming busier every year so taking your eyes off the road, even for a second to make a phone call or eat a quick snack, could lead to severe, or even fatal, consequences."
Adding, "More worryingly, as our research shows, some motorists are not only being unnecessarily distracted but are even failing to take basic safety precautions when driving such as wearing a seatbelt."
