Car insurance rate news - No more pre-published questions in theory tests
Car insurance news - Change to theory test may reduce insurance price rates
A new move to abolish pre-published questions for use in the Driving Standards Agency theory test may mean that new motorists will study the Highway Code more carefully, become safer on the roads and therefore increase their chances of finding a cheaper car insurance rate.
Previously, all of the questions which appear in the theory test had been published and were available to learner drivers. However, concerns were raised that motorists have been learning the answers to questions they think will appear by rote rather than studying and absorbing all of the information and meaning contained within the Highway Code.
Road safety minister Mike Penning said, "By bringing a stop to publication of theory test questions we aim to encourage candidates to prepare by learning each topic area thoroughly rather than just memorising the questions and answers.
"The intention is to improve candidates' knowledge and understanding of driving theory, so that they are more able to retain and apply it when they are on the road."
Theory test revision books and computer programmes will still be available to help learners prepare for the test, and an iPhone app can also aid people who are hoping to test their revision and gauge their progress.
