Car insurance quote news - Loughborough to encourage residents to drive less
Car insurance quote news - Loughborough to reduce motorist mileage
Loughborough county council has revealed plans to carry out a survey next month which will aim to discover how householders travel to work and will attempt to reduce the amount of people who drive there. Road users who do not frequently make long car journeys are more likely to find a cheap car insurance quote due to their low mileage.
The county council aim to help the town by reducing car journeys and making residents healthier with the £90,000 project. As a result, they hope to save £400,000 with their findings through fewer road delays, accidents and less pollution.
A follow-up survey will also take place later on in the year to see if the scheme has impacted drivers' habits. Potentially the council will find that motorists have managed to get the cheaper car insurance by using their vehicle less often and finding a low mileage quote.
Lesley Pendleton, county council cabinet member for environment and transport, states, "By changing their travel habits people will not only save money on fuel, but will play their part in helping to improve air quality in the town. Also by cycling and walking for short journeys, there is the added bonus of getting fitter and healthier – for free."
Residents will be given information on alternative forms of transport, such as cycling, public transport and walking. Drivers, who cannot reach their place of work any other way but by car, can also save money by finding a better car insurance quote and driving in a more fuel efficient way.
