Car insurance news - Drivers who park on the street may face increasing costs
Drivers searching for a reasonable insurance for car quote may also need to consider the rising costs of street parking across the UK when working out their annual motoring charges.
A report has revealed that residents may be subjected to parking costs of more than £391 a year in some areas to park on their road.
The green tax system which will be coming into effect in some areas means that fees will be graded according to the car's carbon dioxide emissions and may cause some drivers to face price rises of up to 400% on their annual parking permit.
The report states that more than half of local authorities have increased the costs of street parking over the last year. Drivers in Islington, North London will be affected by green tax, whereas residents of Barnet and Tunbridge Wells will see the biggest rise in the costs of road-side parking.
In August, Westminster council announced plans to introduce parking costs on Sundays in the borough, as well as extending pay-and-display evening hours from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
However, an RAC Foundation report has found the councils may be acting illegally, and the local authorities may face court action as campaigners are demanding that the costs are cut.
Motorists who are searching for insurance for cars and who have to park their car on the street overnight must inform their provider of this fact when getting a car insurance quote.
