Pay as you drive car insurance news - Low mileage car insurance and film crews
Motorist news - Some low mileage car insurance holders have film crew problem
Many motorists who live in popular filming locations, some of whom may be low mileage car insurance holders, have had their residents' car parking spaces suspended, and occasionally their vehicles towed away, so that film crews have somewhere to park their vehicles during their stay.
A report in The Telegraph says that local councils in areas used by TV and film crews throughout the year all have different ways of dealing with the parking problem faced by visitors and residents.
Tower Hamlets Council in East London asks crews to pay for parking and offers extra security measures to any residents who need to move their vehicles elsewhere to make room, and in Edinburgh alternative parking is provided.
However, in Glasgow, and Islington in London road users are left to find new spaces themselves.
A spokesperson for the AA stated, "It's nice for the council which gets money and raises the profile of the area. New Zealand has been trading for years on Lord of the Rings.
"But it is pretty rough on the motorist, especially if they are on holiday when the filming takes place and they find their car has been towed away to make room for a film crew.
"After all, this is a parking space the motorist has paid for – in some cases we are talking about hundreds of pounds – which has been removed at the stroke of a pen."
This may be particularly irritating for low mileage car insurance holders who are likely to have their car parked in their private space on a more regular basis than drivers without pay as you drive car insurance. Furthermore it might mean that they have to drive around much more than normal to find a place to park, using up their cover miles faster.
