London's motorists are the most environmentally responsible car owners in Britain, new research has revealed, and, as such, might also be able to save money by taking out low mileage insurance from a company which uses telematics technology.

The only area outside London to appear in the highest ten ranking places was Portsmouth.

However, motoring experts have suggested that the reason behind the higher number of "green" cars owned by Londoners and drivers from the South East is possibly due to the fact that they are exempt from the congestion charge in the capital.
