Lower mileage driver news - Parking problems for low mileage insurance holders

Motorist news - Low mileage insurance holders parking on narrow Reading road

It is always important for motorists to remember to drive in a considerate manner, whether they travel long distances or qualify for low mileage insurance. However, some road users may forget that being considerate to others should not stop once the car has been brought to a halt.

Motorists in an East Reading street have been causing problems for bin lorry and emergency services vehicle drivers by parking carelessly, the Reading Post reports.

Foxhill Road is described by a Reading Borough Council member as "very narrow" and it is being claimed that residents and visitors are not parking in a way which facilitates other motorists' journey down the street.

One man, whose mother lives on the road, stated that she "had to be carried the length of Foxhill Road to be put in an ambulance" when she fell ill at her home.

He went on to say, "You certainly couldn't get a fire engine down here.

"It's always been a problem. If everyone parks tight to the kerb, if you're careful, you can get down here. But all it takes is one or two people."

Low mileage insurance holders, who would not want their car tampered with, may be alarmed to know that their vehicle could be removed from a parking space if it hinders the emergency services from accessing a casualty or crime scene.

A spokesperson for the South Central Ambulance Service stated, "If we have any problems [with poor parking] we will call the police because they have the power to move anything blocking the road."

Consequently, if a car is damaged as a result of police intervention in a parking-related issue the owner may be unable to make a claim on their motor cover for any losses caused as a result of negligent parking.
