Motorist news - Holders of no-claims car insurance try to race satnavs
Car insurance news - Racing a satnav clock is unlikely to maintain low no-claims
Young drivers are often not eligible for low no-claims car insurance because of their lack of driving experience, however, reports suggest that teenagers need to take more care when driving if they want to build up their no-claims discount.
A recent study shows that young satnav users are likely to put their lives in danger by attempting to beat the estimated arrival time.
Results from an AA/Populus poll of 11,361 drivers show that just over half of the 75% of young motorists who own a satnav have admitted to trying to beat the time stated on the device at least once.
However, it's not just young drivers guilty of racing the predicted journey time. The report reveals that of the 60% of 25 to 34-year-olds questioned who own satnavs, 33% also try to increase their speed according to the clock.
The places in the UK with the highest number of satnav owners are Humberside and Yorkshire where 58% of drivers agree that they own one. Of these, 18% admit to racing their satnavs.
Scotland has least amount of satnavs with only 11% of the drivers owning the technology. Scots are also the least likely to try and beat the arrival time.
Edmund King, AA president, said, "Human versus machine is evidently a challenge most younger drivers cannot resist. Beat the Clock should stay in the realms of the game show rather than the highway."
Holders of low no-claims car insurance are more likely to maintain a cheap car insurance quote if they drive responsibly and safely, resisting any urges to try to race the satnav clock.
