Car insurance quote news - Motorist banned from driving for a year
A 38-year-old motorist has been banned from driving for a year and fined £1,325 after endangering the lives of his passengers and driving without car insurance in June 2011.
The man, from Leicester, had been driving his five-seat Audi A4 when police stopped the motorist after seeing that his vehicle was overloaded.
There where three adults, a three-year-old child, and nine-month-old baby in the rear, and a female passenger in the front.
After further inspection of the car police officers also found that there were four young children travelling in the boot of the vehicle. This brought the total number of people in the car to 11.
On being told about the risk to their safety, the uninsured motorist is reported to have said, "It doesn't matter – they are only children."
A spokesperson for the road safety charity Brake stated, "This driver has shown a callous disregard for the lives of his passengers, and it is extremely fortunate that his morally reprehensible behaviour has not resulted in far graver consequences.
"Driving is a privilege which this driver has abused to an appalling extent, and Brake is calling for tougher penalties for cases of such reckless law breaking."
It is likely that when this motorist's driving ban is lifted, his car insurance quotes will increase significantly.
In order to legally drive on the road motorists must have car insurance and to keep passengers safe, drivers should only carry the number of people suitable for the car's capacity. Every passenger should use an appropriate seatbelt or suitable restraint.
