Ladies car insurance news - Men and womens car insurance holders’ tyre tread
Motorist news - Men and women's car insurance holders at risk due to bald tyres
A recent study conducted by Confused.com, a price comparison site, has shown that more than half of the UK's men and women's car insurance holders do not know what depth their vehicle's tyres should be to remain legal and road-safe.
The survey found that 60% of motorists do not realise the minimum tread depth for car tyres is 1.6mm and that many drivers admit to knowing very little, or nothing, about basic vehicle maintenance.
Another simple maintenance task which was found to cause an equal amount of trouble for people in the market for men and ladies' car insurance was putting air in their vehicle's tyres. Worryingly, 14% of the surveyed drivers did not realise that this needed to be done at all.
Failing to check tyre tread depth can lead to all sorts of problems for road users, not least being that they could suffer a severe traffic accident.
Drivers could be fined up to £2,500 and be given three penalty points for each tyre found to be less than 1.6mm deep. Not only will this cost the motorist money in that instance, but it may also increase the cost of their annual car insurance premium.
Further, failure to ensure tyres are at the correct pressure will lead to; poor fuel consumption, excessive tyre wear and reduced levels of road ‘feel' and handling, which could also cause a car accident.
Holders of men or women's car insurance should also be aware that in the event of an accident caused by their vehicle's tyres being bald, their insurance company may not cover them for the crash since if the tyres had been correctly maintained the incident may not have occurred.
