Young driver news - New driver car insurance policyholders buying second hand
Car insurance news - Yellow second-hand cars are the riskiest purchase
Data analysing website Kaggle, has revealed that cover is not the only thing a person should compare as a new driver. Car insurance quotes are important, but the colour of vehicle purchased is also of relevance and not just a cosmetic concern.
Apparently, when buying second hand there are some colour vehicles which are more likely to cause the new owner problems than others.
Young drivers may want to take particular care in their choice of vehicle since usually they have to pay more for their cover than more experienced drivers, and having to undertake repairs after buying a car may cause them unnecessary financial trouble.
Based on a world-wide survey which used industry figures on vehicle sales, auctions, and different car models, and in which 800 researchers participated, Kaggle's collection of data showed that yellow cars are the riskiest purchase.
Reportedly, yellow vehicles are more likely to have had a defect hidden by poorly undertaken repairs in order to sell the car, and also more likely to have had their mileage wound back so that it appears to potential buyers that the vehicle has done fewer miles.
According to the statistics, orange second hand vehicles are the safest purchases on average.
However, people who are now eligible for new driver car insurance should not rely solely on the colour of a used car as suitable criteria when browsing for vehicles. Performing an HPI check is the surest way to make sure that there will be no nasty surprises after money has changed hands.
