Young driver news - PAYD telematics is saving motorists' lives
Motorists who have PAYD car insurance, which uses telematics (also known as black box) technology, may be pleased to know that it is helping to reduce the number of road traffic crashes in the UK.
The AA has stated that despite the number of young drivers on Britain's highways increasing, fewer fatal accidents have occurred. There was a reported 12% reduction in road deaths from 2008 to 2009, and a further 16% reduction from 2009 to 2010.
A spokesperson for the company said, "The big advantage of black box technology is that it puts the responsibility in the hands of young drivers.
"They know better than anyone they are more likely to be involved in a serious crash."
He added that the crashes suffered by some young motorists, whether or not they were liable, are "terrible things for someone to have to live with," and for that reason, as well as to save lives, it is "crucial to help bring down accident rates and encourage safer driving."
Companies which provide PAYD car insurance can help new motorists save money on their annual premium, and it is hoped that this financial incentive, coupled with the positive influence telematics technology is having on accident rates throughout the UK, could further increase its popularity.
