Young driver news - Improving student car insurance holders driving skills
Insurance news - Student car insurance holders may get road safety gift
Skill for Life courses, advanced driving programmes run by the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), have been reduced in price by the organisation in the hope that some student car insurance holders will receive road safety course vouchers this Christmas.
The courses not only provide young driver car insurance holders with invaluable motoring skills to help them avoid being involved in an accident, but can, in some cases, lead to drivers being offered lower-priced quotes for cover.
Eighty-five percent of student car insurance holders, and other participants of 18 to 25 years of age, pass the final course test first time after being taught green driving techniques and improving their confidence and safety on the road.
Courses available for young motorists include the Skills Day, Skill for Life, Momentum, and Drive Check Plus. The organisation also runs DriveCheck55 which is aimed at older road users, and courses for motorcyclists and bike riders.
The IAM website states: "We offer the opportunity for car drivers to improve their driving standards, helping to make them safer on the roads.
"[Participant] feedback is impressive – they find the experience enjoyable, the observing excellent, and often say it was one of the best things they have ever done. Many also go on to receive substantially reduced motor insurance premiums."
Potentially, many young road users will be given the chance to improve their driving skills this Christmas, which might be one of the most important presents they receive in their lives and many insurers, such as insurethebox, will offer competitive car insurance rates for drivers who exhibit safe driving behaviours.
