Telematics box car insurance news - Motorists waste a year in traffic jams
Although many drivers are now opting for telematics box insurance, which monitors a car's mileage and is best suited to motorists who do not drive long distances frequently, a survey commissioned by Continental Tyres has revealed that commuting motorists are likely to spend more than a year of their lives in slow-moving traffic.
The study, which investigated the habits of commuters, discovered that out of the 2,000 motorists who took part 63 percent used their car at least four or five days in a working week.
The average commute for motorists was calculated at 28 miles which takes an average 41 minutes to complete – 12 minutes of which are spent in traffic jams.
Tim Bailey, head of safety at Continental Tyres, said of the time spent in cars, "For individuals it means frustration but for the economy as a whole it means lost productivity and increased emissions, so it remains a key issue to tackle."
Drivers who choose to save money on fuel by finding alternative forms of transport to work often find that they can make savings with low mileage car insurance &ndash, this type of insurance, often known as telematics box insurance, records details about how a car is driven and offers a renewal quote based on this information.
