Driver insurance news - Women’s names most popular for cars
Womens car insurance news - Ruby most popular woman on the road
It has long been thought that women's car insurance customers were more likely than their male counterparts to give a pet name to their car, but a new survey by a quote comparison website has revealed that the practice is in fact widespread between both sexes.
However, in news that could add a whole new meaning to the phrase "women's car insurance", the survey revealed that of those who give their car a gender, the majority choose to make it woman, with some 6% of men describing their car as "sexy".
Psychologist, Paul Collet comments, "A majority of car owners feel the need to give their car a distinctive name, usually an affectionate title that expresses how they feel about their car and how they regard it as being different from everyone else's. The drive to individualise one's car in this way is very widespread and it also lays the foundation for how people treat their cars. By giving their car a special name, drivers are treating their car as something that deserves to be cared for - a friend, a pet, a companion, sometimes even a lover."
And it seems that giving a car a name does much to engender owners with a sense of it having a personality. As many as 33% of women's car insurance policyholders admit to having a daily "car-versation" with their vehicles, during which matters talked about vary from the mundane and everyday to the profound and personal.
Good news is that experts believe that giving a car a pet name encourages owners to take a careful approach to driving, and a more diligent and loving approach to vehicle maintenance.
Despite the fact that 40% of men confess to naming their car, women drivers are still more likely to give their motor a pet name, with 56% saying that they do.
And the most popular names? Charlie and Ruby.
