Insurance news - Buyers of young driver car insurance feeling price strain

Young driver news - Road users feeling the strain of motoring costs

A 2011 census undertaken by a car insurance company has revealed that the increasing cost of owning and driving a vehicle is pricing people off the roads and could also lead to them committing crimes in order to retain use of their car.

Reportedly, one in thirteen motorists, likely to include buyers of young driver car insurance, have had to stop driving due to being unable to afford the cost.

Furthermore, four in ten of the drivers surveyed said that they were prepared to use their vehicle less in 2012 if costs continued to increase, and 44% stated that motoring had become less enjoyable for them. More than half of the motorists cited increasing costs as the reason behind their loss of enjoyment of driving.

In comparison with 2010, only 38% of motorist had stated a loss of driving satisfaction, with just 38% placing blame with the rise in cost.

Worryingly, many road users have said that if fuel and car insurance costs increase further they will have to stop driving altogether, with some admitting that they would break laws to save themselves money.

Apparently, 10% of motorists would drive uninsured, 6% would stop paying road tax, and 3% would leave a petrol station forecourt without having paid for their fuel.

Buyers of car insurance for young drivers may be particularly tempted to commit offences such as these since the cost of cover for new drivers can be higher than it is for more experienced road users.

However, it is important to remember that driving uninsured, failing to tax a vehicle, and taking fuel without paying may result in fines and driving penalties, and that by searching for low cost young driver car insurance a motorist can save money on the cost of cover and, hopefully, continue to drive legally on UK roads.
