Young driver car insurance news - Cycling campaign championed by Times
Road safety news - Young drivers pivotal in making roads safer
It would be hoped that many motorists with young driver car insurance might not long ago have left behind their two-wheeled transport in favour of a car and, in that respect, may still be fairly familiar with the dangers of being a cyclist on the nation's roads.
Sadly, it seems that not all drivers are as aware of cyclists as they should be and the Times newspaper recently took the bold step of dedicating its entire front page to the story of one of its news reporters who had suffered terrible personal injuries in a collision with a lorry.
The 27-year-old had been cycling to work in Wapping, London, when she encountered the lorry at a junction – she was just yards from her workplace. She was knocked under the wheels of the vehicle and subsequently taken for emergency treatment in hospital. She has not regained consciousness since the accident in November 2011.
The Times has since launched a campaign – Cities fit for Cycling – which would see large-scale change to the way cycling is viewed as a mode of transport in the UK and how cyclists' safety is maintained on busy city centre roads.
As a telematics car insurance provider insurethebox promotes a strong message of safe and positive driving. It is often be perceived that young and inexperienced motorists may be most at risk of causing car accidents; however, it could be hoped that those with young driver car insurance from a telematics insurance provider may be more aware of their driving and of the roads around them, especially in busy city centres where they are more likely to encounter a cyclist in close proximity.
