Young driver news - Seekers of young driver car insurance facing high prices
Car insurance news - Insurers charging young drivers more for cover
According to data collected by a car insurance company, the average lowest-cost vehicle cover increased in price by 15% in 2011.
The insurer states that as well as this general rise in the price of cheapest insurance, young driver car insurance policyholders are the group of motorists suffering the greatest increases in cover costs.
The firm's director says, "The difference [in insurance prices] shows that the cheaper deals are disappearing. Young drivers seem to be the biggest losers with a higher than average increase for them.
"It's clear that young drivers continue to be of concern to insurers, while many no longer offer cover to those under 21."
Reportedly, the annual premiums of young male drivers in the 17 to 21 age bracket have increased in price by 82% since January 2010, and female motorists have seen a 90% rise in the cost of their cover with another increase possible in December this year due to the EU gender equality ruling.
If a road user is seeking affordable young driver car insurance they should compare quotes from different companies to make sure that they have the best deal. Some insurers' policies specifically cater for drivers of ages 17 to 25 and may save them money.
