Motorist news - Young driver car insurance holders will see new road signs
As they travel, young driver car insurance holders will gradually come across unusual road signs which they had only ever seen in the Highway Code during their theory test revision.
However, when a government plan comes into effect all motorists will be happy to know that unnecessary and confusing signs will be made obsolete. .
New powers given to councils will mean that they can remove or replace signs in their area without needing to gain approval from Whitehall. It is thought that this may lead to an increased number of 20mph signs being put up as councils attempt to reduce speeding. New driver car insurance holders are thought to be most likely to have accidents involving high speeds, so this could help reduce the number of incidents and claims.
Transport Minister, Norman Baker, stated, "There are still lots of signs around warning of cattle farming where cattle farming no longer occurs and so-called temporary signs advising of events long past."
As well as removing or replacing potentially confusing signs the government scheme also aims to reduce congestion and cut carbon emissions by prohibiting the use of some roads and encouraging motorists who use their car for journeys of less than two miles to use a healthy mode of transport, such as walking or cycling, by way of interactive signs.
Holders of young driver car insurance policies may welcome simplified road signs which might reduce their risk of being involved in a crash as they familiarise themselves with the road without their driving instructor to guide them.
