Car insurance news - Young driver car insurance holders' future could be brighter
A recent report by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) titled Keeping the Nation Moving: Time to Face the Facts, which focuses on how to tackle traffic congestion and pollution on Britain's roads, has listed proposals which may be viewed as radical by some motorists.
According to the Government's projections of future road traffic statistics, which take into account the current rate of car ownership by young driver car insurance holders and more experienced drivers, the amount of vehicles on UK highways will have risen by more than 40% by 2035.
The RAC states, "There will be at least four million more cars on the UK's roads in the next twenty-five years as the population grows by more than ten million.
"The jump in people and cars will be accompanied by surges in traffic volume and delays on the UK's roads, which are already the most heavily used in Europe."
For this reason the foundation has proposed measures such as flattening hill-roads, replacing more congested roundabouts and traffic lights with bridges, developing the process which enables waste to be turned into fuel, and building more electric vehicle charge points.
Furthermore, it has even proposed the introduction of a system which would see people with car insurance for young drivers and experienced road users booking to use the road at certain times.
These schemes could potentially reduce the rate of traffic jams plus help lower the UK's carbon footprint, and, according to the head of policy at the Institution of Civil Engineers, all the ideas are in line with Government policies and achievable with existing technology.
If the ideas in the RAC's report are implemented, the foundation hopes that young driver car insurance holders will live to see an 80% reduction in emissions by 2050 and enjoy much smoother travel car journeys.
