Car insurance for young drivers news - Scotland’s young driver insurance holders
Road safety news - Scottish police catch young driver insurance holders speeding
Police on the A90 road at Ellon near Aberdeen in Scotland caught several young driver insurance holders driving dangerously, although one officer stated that hazardous motoring offenders were "not just young people – it's older people too".
The busy commuter road has a 60mph speed limit, yet, within hours of each other, three motorists, with car insurance for young drivers, were recorded doing more than 100mph.
Road safety campaigners have asked that a greater number of unmarked police cars be put in place to catch the motorists who are breaking the law and posing a danger to others.
A spokesperson for Grampian Police, which was involved in the speeding crackdown led by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS), said, "Despite repeated messages, the local results for day one of this national campaign are very frustrating to those of us who are trying to promote and encourage road safety and safe driving."
He continued, "Inexperienced and young drivers, country roads and speed can be a deadly combination and the improved weather and driving conditions can lull drivers into a sense of false security," but made it clear that drivers of all ages were driving recklessly.
However, a member of the Scottish Campaign Against Irresponsible Driving (SCID) thinks that reaching young people before they are young driver insurance holders is the key to reducing dangerous motoring.
"I would like to see much more done in the final years of high school before young people get their licence," she explained.
"We need to work with young people and bring to their attention the consequences of their actions. A car is a means to get from A to B. It's not to be used as some extension of their macho image."
