Young driver car insurance news - New laws in force from June 20
Young driver news - Car insurance is changing. Don't be caught uninsured
All motorists, including those with young driver car insurance, are being reminded that a new law, which becomes enforceable next month, will mean that should their motor cover expire, if new car insurance is not purchased, they could face a fine even if the vehicle is not being driven.
Presently, a driver can only be issued with a penalty if he or she is caught driving an uninsured vehicle, but under new Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) anyone who owns an uninsured vehicle could face a fine, or, if the car remains uninsured, a court appearance, unless they declare to the DVLA that their vehicle is off the road, by completing a Statutory Off Road Notice (SORN).
CIE will be in place from June and an advertising campaign has been launched by the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) to remind car insurance dodgers that the registered keeper of any uninsured vehicle could have direct action taken against them.
Ashton West, chief executive at the Motor Insurers' Bureau, commented, "Around four percent of vehicles have no motor insurance at any given time, and this needs to change so that is why this new enforcement approach is so important."
First time car insurance buyers and inexperienced motorists with young driver car insurance may be especially prone to forgetting to renew their car insurance, so it is especially important that these drivers are targeted to avoid them being penalised by default.
