How does it work?

Telematics technology allows us to gather accurate information about our customers’ driving, so we
can calculate car insurance based on individual driving behaviour. Customers who drive safely
receive lower renewal premiums and more Bonus Miles.

We believe this technology will encourage you to drive more safely, and may provide a less stressful
experience in the event of an accident.

We assess driving behaviour by fitting a telematics ‘Clear Box’ to your car. The Clear Box is about the
size of a smart phone and fits out of sight inside the car, normally behind the dashboard. It is safe and
doesn’t interfere with the working of your car.

The Clear Box sends the following information:

• The time of day or night you drive
• The speed you drive at on different sorts of road
• How smoothly you drive
• If you take breaks on long journeys
• Your motorway miles
• Your total mileage
• The total number of journeys you make
• Distances travelled
• Details of any accidents (see below)

Accidents
In the event of an accident information is collected to give a clear and accurate overview of the
incident for insurance claim purposes. The data will include the:

• Time and place of the accident
• Force of impact on the vehicle
• Direction of travel at the time of impact
• Speed of the vehicle prior to and after the time of impact

Having a Clear Box fitted also means we can help you if you have an accident, and track the location

Fitting a Clear Box

When you take out your insurethebox policy we will arrange for a Clear Box to be fitted to your car at
no extra charge. The fitting process takes about an hour and can be carried out at your home
or workplace at a time agreed by you and our fitting team. Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to
5pm.

Your Portal

When you insure with us we give you access to Your Portal, a personalised page on our website. We
put the driving data sent to us by the Bonus Miles. You can earn up to 100 Bonus Miles each month to add to the 6,000 miles bought at the start of your policy.
