Will the black box affect my battery?

The black box does use power from the battery, but it needs very little charge (less than a car radio) and should not drain your battery as long as it is in good working order.

My car has been modified, will you still insure it?

No – insurethebox does not provide cover for vehicles with modifications (other than by the manufacturer or for a disability). Please speak to one of our agents via Live Chat on Your Portal if you’re unsure whether a particular alteration to your car is classed as a modification.

Am I covered to drive other cars?

No – your insurethebox private car policy does not cover you to drive other cars, other than a courtesy car provided to you under the insurethebox approved repairer scheme if your vehicle is damaged following an insured loss. Full details can be found in your Car Insurance Schedule on Your Portal.

What do I do if I want to sell my car?

If you sell your car, we will switch off the box remotely so it no longer transmits data. We can remove the box if you or the new owner requests it.

If you buy a new car, you can transfer your cover onto the new vehicle and we can fit a new box. Please note: changing your car may result in an increase or decrease in premium. There is a £90 fee if you change your car. Fees will be subject to Insurance Premium Tax where applicable. Please read the Terms and Conditions document for more information.

To find out how much your premium would change if you sold your car and bought a new one, speak to one of our agents via Live Chat on Your Portal.

If you are no longer planning to drive, you can cancel your policy. See ‘How much is the cancellation fee?‘ for details of our cancellation fees.
