The Learn2Live Parents event is a unique road safety event aimed at parents of soon-to-be young drivers. It was held for the first time on Wednesday 17th June 2015 at the Waterside Centre in Ivybridge, Devon.
Using a similar format to the Learn2Live ‘theatre style’ education which is given to all year 12 students and above in Devon and Cornwall, presentations from members of the emergency services as well as a bereaved mother were given to the audience.
Some of the speakers recalled events where young people sustained live-changing injuries or tragically died while either driving, or being a passenger while one of their friends was driving. Messages were hard-hitting and provoked emotional responses from the audience. The event was designed to highlight where some of the risks are to young people once they have gained the freedom and independence of driving.
The messages conveyed will hopefully help the parents in the audience to support their children who will be learning to drive in the near future. Practical suggestions were shared with the parents on how they can work with their sons and daughters to make small changes to help keep them safe on the roads.
Additional presentations were made by an advanced driving instructor and by our own Road Safety Manager, Simon Rewell. These speeches were designed to give useful suggestions for when it comes to choosing driving instructors, as well as explaining the benefits of telematics insurance.
After the presentations, parents were able browse around the various display stands, speak with industry experts, and ask questions about how to support their children so that they stay safe on the roads.
