However, if a driver is steering with one hand or by crossing their hands over one other, they might find that they cannot turn the car away at the angle needed to avoid the obstacle quickly enough.

Using two hands while driving along a road, or undertaking manoeuvres, should also help keep the car straighter and movements more precise. This may further reduce the possibility of a collision on the highway, or the car sustaining a scratch or bump with a stationary vehicle or item of road furniture.
