We'll contact you a few days after you take out your policy to arrange a convenient appointment for a telematics black box (the in-tele-box) to be fitted to your car. Usually this will take place at either your home or place of work, Monday to Friday.
Please note if you do not co-operate in having the in-tele-box fitted to your car within 14 days of you arranging your policy with us we reserve the right to cancel your policy.
Our black box - the in-tele-box - is about the size of a mobile phone and is fitted out of sight in the car. The fitting is carried out by one of our experienced installers and takes around an hour. It is safe and does not interfere with the workings of your car.
You are insured before the in-tele-box is fitted
You will be insured to drive your car from the moment your policy starts; you do not have to wait for the in-tele-box to be fitted.
However; there may be fees payable if you or we cancel your policy – please refer to the Terms and Conditions document for more information.
If you choose to cancel your policy, we will automatically de-activate the box so no data is transmitted. That means it can stay in your car. If you wish, we can remove it – there is no charge for this service.
Safe drivers are rewarded
The data from the telematics box in your car tells us:
- The time of day or night you drive
- The speed you drive at on different sorts of road
- If you brake or accelerate sharply
- If you take breaks on long journeys
- Your motorway miles
- Your total mileage
- The total number of journeys you make
We use this information to reward safe driving.
If you drive responsibly you could earn up to 100 Bonus Miles each month – that’s up to 1,200 a year! The information from the in-tele-box also helps us work out how much you pay when you renew. It lets you prove you are a safe driver and lets us treat you as an individual. Quite simply, safer drivers are offered better deals.
Extra benefits with the in-tele-box
We figured that by now you might be wondering - should I get a black box in my car? So here are a few reasons why we think you might find it beneficial (besides it potentially saving you money).
The in-tele-box will alert us if your car has been involved in an accident. If your car isn’t moving, we will try to call you on your mobile to check that you’re ok and help you on your way, or, if it is not safe to drive your car, we will arrange for your car to be taken for repair. If there is no reply and we believe you might be injured, particularly if your car is shown to be in a remote or isolated environment, we will do our very best to alert the emergency services to come to your aid. Please note that we are not able to guarantee that the emergency services will attend, and you should therefore still make all possible efforts to contact them yourself.
The in-tele-box works as a theft tracking device, so if your vehicle is stolen we can track its location and liaise with the police to help find it.
