What is Courtesy Car Cover Plus?

Courtesy Car Cover Plus, administered by Brit Syndicates Ltd, provides a courtesy car for up to 21 days if your car is declared a total loss following an accident that was your fault, or as a result of fire, lightning, flood, vandalism, explosion, theft or attempted theft. For all other instances, a courtesy car is provided under the terms of your policy when a claim is made.

To receive the courtesy car hire you must meet the following criteria: you must be able to produce a current full valid driving licence which has been continuously in force for six months, and you must not work as an entertainer or professional sports person.

If you don’t qualify for a courtesy car because you don’t meet the above criteria, or a courtesy car is not available, you will receive up to £250 towards reasonable and necessary alternative transport costs where you’re able to provide official receipts.

Courtesy Car Cover Plus also includes:

  • Cover for legal costs and expenses up to £50,000 if you are prosecuted for a motoring offence
  • Cover for legal costs and expenses up to £50,000 if you are a victim of vehicle number-plate cloning
  • Identity theft advice and assistance
  • Access to legal, tax and counselling helplines
  • Access to a consumer legal services website

You can add Courtesy Car Cover Plus at the start of your policy or at renewal. Unfortunately you are unable to add it mid-way through the term of your policy.

What is Uninsured Loss Protection?

All our policies include Uninsured Loss Protection (provided by ARAG Plc). This means we will cover legal expenses up to £100,000 to reclaim losses, not covered by your policy, from someone who has caused an accident resulting in your injury or damage to your car. The third-party must be identifiable for us to reclaim.

If you choose to make a legal costs claim, our provider will appoint a solicitor, or one of their agents, to handle your case and seek compensation and claim back losses like your excess for you. Please note that this applies if there is a reasonable chance of the case being successful.

Do you inform the police or other authorities about speeding instances?

While we encourage safe driving and advise you to drive at a speed that is appropriate for the road and driving conditions, we won’t inform the police if you drive over the speed limit. We won’t release your driving information to any authorities unless we have your permission or we are required to do so by law, or we suspect fraud or attempted fraud.

Can other people drive my car?

Only if:

  • They are a named driver on your policy, or
  • Their own insurance policy includes cover for driving other cars.

If someone, who is not a named driver on your policy has an accident while driving your car, they will need to claim on their own insurance policy.

What breakdown cover do you offer?

You can buy our Roadside Assistance Cover, provided by Intana Assistance, as an addition to your insurance policy. They will attend at the roadside and attempt to get you on your way. If your car can’t be repaired or it isn’t safe to do so, they will transport your car to your home or a suitable garage for repairs.

If you take out Doorstep Cover, Intana Assistance will attend at your home if, for example, your car won’t start. You can also buy European Cover, extending your breakdown cover to Europe (most countries are covered; please see your policy documents in Your Portal for details).

You can add Roadside Assistance Cover at the start of your policy or at renewal. Unfortunately, you are unable to add it mid-way through the term of your policy.
