Can I park my car somewhere other than the registered address overnight?

Yes, you can park your car at a different address to the one registered on the policy but the address on your policy must be where the car is normally kept overnight.

It is a policy condition that you must inform us about any change to information that you’ve originally provided. If the data from your black box shows that you’re parking elsewhere, we will contact you and the policy could be cancelled.

Can I have a policy with you if I have convictions?

There are a number of factors that influence getting a policy with us. We may provide a quote for drivers with motoring convictions, but not unspent non-motoring convictions.

Please contact us on Live Chat if any driver on your policy receives a conviction so that we can update your details and advise if this affects your policy.

How do I get my black box fitted?

Our specialist team will contact you within 5 working days of your policy start date to arrange for the black box to be fitted to your car. They will visit your home or place of work or study between Monday and Friday at a day and time suitable to you – some Saturday appointments might be available.

You are insured from the moment you buy your policy but please note that if we’re not able to fit the black box within 14 days of your policy start date, we reserve the right to cancel your policy. We will give you 7 days’ notice in writing as described in your Private Car Policy Document.

Does speeding impact my insurance premium or renewal?

If you persistently and/or excessively speed, you won’t benefit from the rewards offered by us, including monthly Bonus Miles and a potential discount at renewal. We might not be able to offer you renewal, or as stated on page 8 of your Private Car Policy, we might cancel your policy for persistent or excessive speeding.

In the event that your policy is cancelled, please note that neither insurethebox nor any other Insure The Box administered product will be prepared to arrange insurance for you in the future. You will be obliged to inform any future insurance providers that we have enforced the cancellation of this policy.

What information can the black box tell you?

The black box monitors a number of driving related factors, such as mileage, speed, the time of day and the location of your car. It records any sudden impacts on the car, monitoring heavy braking or harsh acceleration. We’ll post a summary of your driving data in Your Portal, where you’ll also be able to see Bonus Miles awarded to you for safe driving behaviour.

Please note that we’re aware that occasionally you have no alternative but to use your brakes severely to avoid an accident; occasional use of “hard” braking will not be scored against you. We look at a number of factors to give an overall assessment of driving.

How do I buy Top Up Miles?

You can buy Top Up Miles in Your Portal. The price of your Top Up Miles depends on your premium – this is called your cost per mile rate and it was set when you took out your policy, changed your details, or when you renewed.

You can buy Top Up Miles online in bundles of 250, 500, 1,000 or 2,000 miles at any time during your policy. Alternatively, you can buy a set amount of miles by calling us on 0333 103 0000.

Unused Policy Miles cannot be refunded but any remaining Top Up Miles will roll over to the following year when you renew.

What are Bonus Miles?

Bonus Miles are additional miles you can earn as a reward for driving safely. If you drive responsibly, you can earn up to 100 Bonus Miles each month – that’s up to 1,200 a year! Your Bonus Miles also help us work out your renewal premium.

The safety factors we consider include speed, time of day, smooth driving, taking breaks on long journeys and the types of roads you drive on.

Bonus Miles are awarded at a monthly basis and will appear in Your Portal, with an individual score for each safety factor, 7 days after the policy month has ended.

What is Uninsured Loss Protection?

All our policies include Uninsured Loss Protection (provided by ARAG Plc). This means we will cover legal expenses up to £100,000 to reclaim losses, not covered by your policy, from someone who has caused an accident resulting in your injury or damage to your car. The third-party must be identifiable for us to reclaim.

If you choose to make a legal costs claim, our provider will appoint a solicitor, or one of their agents, to handle your case and seek compensation and claim back losses like your excess for you. Please note that this applies if there is a reasonable chance of the case being successful.
